Growing with the  IcGSM

We’re now busy preparing for the Sixth International Course on Geotechnical and Structural Monitoring. For the fifth course in May 2018 we again had more than 100 registrants from 25 countries, bringing the total to more than 550 from 53 countries. We find it very motivating to be able to meet such a diverse number of colleagues, and to provide this learning experience for them.

The sixth course will be at the same venue in Rome as the fifth course, from May 27th to 31st 2019. After struggling for five years to find an easily accessible venue that satisfies most registrants, we think that we’ve finally found it!

We’ve tried to improve each edition of the course by introducing something different and innovative.

For this edition, we’ve decided to change the structure of the course. In the past the 3-day Main Course has been preceded by a small number of Master Classes, covering different monitoring techniques. During the Main Course we had brief sessions on these same monitoring techniques, but have come to recognize that these were too brief to be satisfactory. This time we’re therefore providing eight 2-hour Master Classes on the first two days of the course and have removed basic monitoring techniques from the Main Course, enabling this to be two days long. In this way we hope that those who want information on monitoring techniques will have a much more complete learning experience by opting for one or all the Master Classes.

The third day of the course will consist of a Field Trip in the historical center of Rome. The participants will have the chance to visit the Roman Forum and to attend live demonstrations of instruments performed by exhibitors (manufacturers and expert technicians).

The Main Course will be on the fourth and fifth day. This will include case histories, new trends in geotechnical and structural monitoring, human factors and Panel discussions.

We are pleased to invite You to join us in Rome for the Sixth International Course on Geotechnical and Structural Monitoring!
